New Musicians in South Portland
There are 147 5th graders city wide starting band this year. On September 25th Mr. Furman working with Mrs. Quinn, Mrs. Barry, Lisa Dorr and students helped the parents and new musicians with instrument selection and assembly. Students learned how assemble their new instruments and how to play them correctly.
These students will be working with Mr. Furman twice a week throughout the year learning and enjoying music. The high point of the year will be the All-City 5th Grade Concert in May. Make sure you come out to see these future stars!!
Marching Band Season Going Well
The
High School Marching Band season is about half through and South Portland again
is performing magnificently. This years music is from the movie "Far and
Away" composed by John Williams and arranged by Terry White. Soloists
include Emily Libby, Shana Kieran and David Arnold. 1st year Drum Major Briggon
Snow has worked hard to learn his role and is doing a phenomenal job as the 3
star rating he received in Portsmouth shows!! The Percussion group has put in
tons of hours practicing and this has really paid off. They have received a
rating of 3 stars in every performance this year!! The Colorguard has more than
doubled from last year and makes a beautiful addition to the music. There
are only 3 more weekends to see these wonderful kids perform. Come and see them
if you can.
