Music Camps Occupy Students
Marching Band Camp
The High School Marching Band season kicks off on the 23rd of August with Marching Band Camp. This promises to be very exciting. There are almost 80 students signed up for Marching Band including 19 for Color Guard which just about triples the Guard. This year the music is from the movie "Far and Away" starring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. The score was composed by John Williams and will be arranged by local music teacher Terry White. Memorial Summer Music Camp
Incoming 6th,
7th and 8th grade band students
at Memorial spent last week in Mrs. Quinn's Summer Band Camp. This was a great
opportunity to learn cool music and spend time with classmates. Movie themes
were the genre picked out by Mrs. Quinn this year. The kids
had fun performing:
The James Bond Theme
All Star by Smashmouth from the movie "Shrek"
Gollum's Song from "The Lord of the Rings"
Summertime from "Porgy and Bess"
During "Summertime" improvisational solos were performed by some of
the students.
Small group ensembles also played. The Flute ensemble played "My Favorite Things" from "The Sound of Music" and the Clarinet ensemble played "Rainbow Connection" from "The Muppet Movie". The concert finished with a "Stomp" routine performed with soda bottles directed by Lisa Dorr and Mrs. Quinn. Many thanks to Carol Furman, Carl Menard and all the staff who help put on this wonderful camp. We really appreciated the pizza party that student and their families shared.
