Winterguard Wins!!
The South Portland High School 2005 Winter Colorguard Team kicked off their season at Salem, New Hampshire on Sunday, February 20th with a win in the Independent Reg A Division. The team has been practicing since early December and is coached by Chris O’Connor with assistants Kathy Foss, Lisa Dorr and Jillian Cote. Winter Guard is an offshoot of the fall Color Guard Team and participates in the NESBA (New England Scholastic Band Association) circuit.
Membership in NESBA is open to all secondary schools in the New England area. NESBA provides competitive events for everyone through both the Fall Marching Band Activities and the Winter Activities Programs.
The team is co-captained by Maddie Wright and Samantha Nicholson, along with returning seniors Allison Morrill, Casey Doucette and Amber Doyle the team has 13 members. The show this year is “Walking in Memphis” and incorporates intricate flag work, rifles and saber.
The guard will be participating in three more shows with the finals in Dartmouth, Massachusetts on Sunday, April 3rd. For more information about NESBA and detailed Winter Guard information and show times got to http://www.nesba.org
