Bingo Calendar

Changes to Saturday night bingo

For 25 years, the South Portland Music Boosters have been running the Saturday night bingo at the John Roberts Rd Bingo Hall. Starting Feb 1, 2009, we will enter into a different relationship with the bingo hall and the Lamson family. This relationship will be beneficial to the South Portland Music Boosters.

Early this year (2008) Gary Lamson formed the Maine Booster Association. The purpose was to provide an opportunity for various civic and booster groups to raise money for their operations in an equitable way. The Maine Booster Association will hold the license to run bingo on all nights of the week at John Roberts Rd. The other booster groups who have been involved with running bingo (such as us) will provide workers on our assigned night. We will receive a monthly stipend for this. The Music Boosters will continue to work Saturday night. We will continue to have “teams” that are split up over each week of the month. The only thing that will change is that we will no longer have to do all the state paperwork involved with holding a bingo license.

Financially our yearly income will be less than in the past but the amount is still acceptable and the Board fully supports the new arrangement. We will be able to continue to support our 650+ South Portland music students in a manner that provides them with opportunities to experiment, learn, and grow in their musical education.

Getting Started…
Complete the Bingo Volunteer Form and your captain or co-captain will contact you and get you scheduled in the rotation. It is as simple as that!

With as few as 20 members per team, your time commitment will be about one Saturday every other month! With more than 600 music students… many hands make light work!

Coaching and Training...
If you’re new… We ask that you work with us initially one Saturday a month, for three team shifts. This is the training period. Captains and coaches will be available to show you the ropes and answer any questions. You will receive a copy of the newly created Bingo Handbook — with step by step instructions for each Bingo job.

If you’re seasoned… (note, we didn’t say old!) you can buddy up with our new volunteers, sharing info that has worked for you. A copy of the new Handbook will always be available as a refresher or quick reference tool on our website and in the Bingo Hall.

Did you know...
Work just one shift and single-handedly contribute $500 to SP Music Programs! Your efforts will help fund instrument purchases, summer and senior scholarships, formal wear, marching and jazz band expenses, travel expenses for all music programs, and many other wonderful things for music students in our schools!

Where: The Bingo Hall is at 170 John Roberts Road, South Portland, near Home Depot. Phone: 253-5363.

When: Saturdays from 4:00 p.m. to 9:45 p.m.

Comfort: Dinner is provided! (Philly Cheese Steak, fried clams, burgers, etc.) Wear comfortable shoes as you’ll be on your feet.
