CONGRATULATIONS TO THE SOUTH PORTLAND HIGH SCHOOL MARCHING BAND who received an unprecedented 12th Gold Medal at the Maine Band Director’s Association (MBDA) Marching Band Finals held on October 28th at Sanford High School.  The marching band students, under the direction of Craig Skeffington, performed among 11 other bands from Maine and New Hampshire. Led by senior Drum Major Andrew LeBlanc, and assistant Drum Major, senior Josh Hyssong the Gold Medal marching band entertained the packed stands with a crowd-pleasing performance, playing the Music of Hans Zimmer. With the band’s complicated drill design by Craig Scott, and the precise movements of the Color Guard, led by junior captain Rachel Currie and senior captain Hugo Robertson, the band played songs from The Dark Knight, Gladiator, Driving Miss Daisy, Madagascar, Pirates of the Caribbean, and The Lion King. Soloists, senior Sarah Weden on mellophone and senior Jesse Pearlman on trumpet, along with the 70 Red Riot Marching Band members, brought the crowd to their feet with this five-star performance.  Congratulations on 12 Years of Gold!
